Our Mission & Impact

The 878 Banff/Canmore Squadron is dedicated to fostering leadership, citizenship, and personal development in youth through the Air Cadet program. Our fundraising activities are vital in providing resources and opportunities for our cadets to thrive and excel in their endeavors.
Through initiatives like our annual silent auction, first-aid kits sale, bottle drives, and generous donations, we ensure that our cadets have access to enriching experiences and essential training. Your involvement and support are crucial in helping us achieve our mission.

The 878 Banff / Canmore Squadron is raising funds to purchase a new 15-passenger van to help ensure our cadets can get safely to and from scheduled events.

First Prize - 16” x 24” “Jasbear” print on aluminum by Jeff Walker. Retail value $650

“As the sun set on a calm evening in Jasper, Alberta, this alpha grizzly bear came out to enjoy an evening snack. This bear can be seen a few hours later in the limited edition shot ‘Land of the Midnight Bear’.”

Second Prize – 16” x 24” “The Wisper” print on aluminum by Ken Hoehn, retail value $470

The Whisper” is a notable nature photograph by Ken Hoehn, a renowned Canadian wildlife photographer based in Canmore, Alberta.  The photograph features a close-up of a Great Gray Owl, capturing the bird’s intense gaze and detailed plumage. Hoehn is known for his unique “high definition aluminum” prints, which use specialized substrates to create vibrant colours and a sense of depth that makes the viewer feel “right there” with the animal. https://kenhoehn.ca/open-editions/the-whisper?rq=owl

3rd prize: Edge of the Coulee, Western Landscape is a 1961 lithograph by the Canadian artist and academic George Swinton (1917–2002). retail value $150. Framed size 19”x 24”

George Swinton was a multifaceted figure in the Canadian art world, born in Vienna before emigrating to Canada in 1939. In 1954, he became a professor at the University of Manitoba and later at Carleton University. He is most famous for his pioneering research and books on Inuit sculpture, such as Sculpture of the Eskimo (1972). Swinton was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy and was appointed to the Order of Canada in 1980 for his contributions as a painter, critic, and promoter of Inuit art. His artworks are held in major institutions, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, and the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The Deluxe First-Aid Kit includes an extensive range of supplies for all situations. Available for $45, proceeds go towards enhancing our cadets’ educational resources.
